Machine Automation Controllers

Machine automation controllers (MAC), a relatively new category of controllers introduced by Omron Industrial Automation, integrates logic, motion, safety, robotics, vision, information, visualization and networking under one software: Sysmac Studio. MACs are an expansion of the industrial controller concept of PLC's and PAC's (programmable automation controllers) with the main differentiating feature of the MAC architecture designed and built around motion control from the ground up, integrated with other functions such as sequencing and networking. The real-time scheduler that updates motion, network, and applications all at the same time results in better and tighter synchronization of multiple systems- from motion, vision, and safety to enterprise-level data sharing and control. MACs have also been moving into non motion applications with their high-speed processing, networking, and safety capabilities competing with the traditional PLC and PAC controllers. The built-in EtherCat and EtherNet/IP networks provide the perfect match between fast real time machine control and the data plant management requirements.
